The City government, comprised of a Mayor and five Council Members, has two regularly scheduled meetings each month, on the second and fourth Mondays respectively.

The Town Charter lays down specific regulations about the town government and the plan of government. The form of government for Baconton is designated as the Mayor-Council Plan. The Charter states as follows:

“Section 4. Be it further enacted that the municipal government of the City of Baconton shall consist of and be vested in a mayor and five councilmen; that said mayor and council shall have full power and authority . . . to make and establish rules, laws, ordinances and regulations, orders, as to them may seem right and proper . . . ”
 
The Mayor is Charles Johnson.  Mayor Johnson is a Baconton native, born and raised.  After retiring from the armed forces, he returned to share his knowledge, expertise and experience with the community.  As of November 2007, Mayor Johnson beganned his third term as Chief Commanding Officer. He will be up for re-election in November 2010.
 
Mayor Pro Tem is Annette Morman and District 3 Councilman . Ms. Morman is a native of Baconton, Georgia. She now holds the Council Seat in the District that her father, Mr. James E. Morman, once held.  Ms. Morman is a retired State of Georgia employee.  Her motto is “Working together can make a difference in ones' life”.  Ms. Morman will be up for re-election in November 2010.
 
The Council Member representing District 1 is Elizabeth Williams.  Ms. Williams will be up for re-election in November of 2009.
 
Council Member Tim Pinson, also a Baconton native, graduated from the University of Georgia, returned home, and began to build his business. He has been a Council Member for several years and represents the citizens of  District 2. Mr. Pinson will be up for re-election in November of 2010.
 
The Council Member representing District 4 is Jackie Graham. Mrs. Graham was newly elected in July 2008. She is a retired soldier from the US Army Branch. Mrs. Graham will be up for re-election in November of 2012.
 
The Council Member representing District 5 is Dorothy Morman. Currently, a retired school teacher, Mrs. Morman taught school, successfully, in Mitchell County for 31 years.  She has represented the city since 1987.  Council Member Morman will be up for re-election in November of 2009.

City Public Works are managed and operated by Director Anthony Morman.

 
City Election operations, business license and other administrative tasks are coordinated by City Clerk Charlene Porcha.
 
City water bill collections are collected by Turquise Marcus as well as webpage maintenance and other administative tasks.
